COUNTY MATCH SECRETARY'S REPORT – 24th MARCH 2005
Six teams were entered in the County Championships for season 2004/2005, one cadet, two junior, one senior and two veterans.
The Cadets played in the Premier Division playing six matches winning two and losing four, resulting in bottom place in the final league table. Matches were played over two Saturdays at Grantham. The venue was changed to Grantham after complaints regarding the proposed venue in Sussex.
The first Junior team played in Division 1A, finishing 6th in the final table, playing seven, winning two and losing five. The matches were played at Grantham over two Saturdays. The second Junior team, played in Division 2A, where eight matches were played, winning and losing 4 matches, resulting in a mid table position. Again the matches were played at Grantham.
The Senior team played in Division 1A. Despite playing a weakened team, Lancashire came top of the division gaining promotion for next season. The matches were played over two weekends at Wellow House, Nottinghamshire and congratulations must be recorded to all players in their successful season.
The Veterans Premier Division 1st weekend was held at Halifax, with the 2nd at Ashford, Middlesex. Lancashire finished a worthy 3rd place, playing seven matches, winning five and losing two. The 2nd Veterans team played in Division 3A and once again it was difficult to raise a team for both weekends. The matches were played at Dewsbury and the team must be congratulated in coming runners up in the Division.
I would like to thank Peter Aspin for captaining the cadet and junior teams, Stan Clarke for captaining the seniors and also Kevin Dolder, who captained the seniors on one of the weekends. The veterans were captained by John Rankin, Barry Crook and Keith Williams at the various matches in the absence of a permanent team captain and I would like to thank them all for their efforts.
I would like to record my appreciation to all the players, with special thanks to the players who turned out at the last minute.
Junior and Cadet Trials took place at the Castle Hill Table Tennis Centre in Bolton during September, with Regional Trials held at the Halton Stadium in November.
